The new Ipad 3 might feature LTE and a Retina display!

It is almost a year ago Ipad 2 was born and rumor has it that it will soon be the premiere of the sequel Ipad 3
Apple is once again in the spotlight when the month of March is fast approaching. According to sources who have spoken to the site All Things D, the announcement of Ipad 3 will be during the first week of March. However, that is not all.

Wall Street Journal has since revealed that their own sources say that Apple can show a smaller version of around eight inches at the announcement. This could be a budget version with a lower screen resolution and smaller form factor.

WSJ also talks of an LTE (4g) version of the Ipad that will go on sale by the U.S. carrier AT & T and Verizon, probably in the form of a brand new tablet.

Maybe we might even be lucky to get a retina screen on the new ipad which would the (with the sam PPI as Iphone 4) have a staggering resolution of 2048×1536. Other rumors include a quadcore processor quite like the Tegra 3 and a better camera.

Find My iPhone helps NYPD locate thief and stolen iPhone

We’ve heard plenty of stolen iPhone and iPad stories where Apple’s Find My iPhone came in handy in locating the missing devices, but this next story shows us something a little different. When a cashier at Tuci Italia in New York was robbed of her iPhone at gunpoint, the responding officers knew immediately what to do.

Officer Robert Garland, who arrived at the scene and who is an Apple fan–he and his wife own several iOS devices–knew that Find My iPhone may help track the thief and corner him. It worked.

The NY Times reports:

Punching in the victim’s Apple ID, which is the log-on people use to buy, say, songs from iTunes, he quickly determined by the location of a small gray phone icon on a digital map that the robber was near Eighth Avenue and 51st Street.

As Officer Garland and his partner drove there, the signal source shifted, closer to Eighth Avenue and 49th Street. There, a man later identified by the police as George Bradshaw, 40, of New Lots, Brooklyn, stepped outside a Food Emporium.

After locating Bradshaw, Officer Garland used the Find My iPhone app on his own device–this was possible after the victim entered her Apple ID and password into the officer’s app–to emit a sound from the stolen iPhone. Bradshaw was beeping just 20 feet away.

Locating and recovering the stolen iPhone, along with arresting the thief, took no more than 30 minutes. I’m sure the Tuci Italia cashier was thrilled to get her stolen iPhone back in no time. And it’s great to know that law enforcement officers are now becoming technology savvy, which undoubtedly helped with the very swift justice in this case.

If you own one or more iOS devices, consider enabling and using Find My iPhone for all of them. You never know when it might come in handy.

Siri powered translator for jailbroken iphone 4s

Last week we brought you news of the release of the long-awaited jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Now it looks like jailbreak developers have wasted no time in preparing some amazing tweaks for the iPhone 4S’s most notable feature: Siri. A tweak has appeared in the Cydia app store that turns Siri into a translator.

Lingual is a free tweak that allows users to say an English phrase to Siri and have it translated into whatever language they choose. At present Lingual supports more than 30 languages, including French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Russian, Vietnamese, Ukranian, Estonian, and more. Lingual requires that the AssistantExtension tweak already be installed.

Its not perfect but its getting there!

Jailbreak Iphone 4s and ipad 2, FINALLY!

YES! FINALLY! A jailbreak for the Iphone 4s and Ipad 2!!! Im jailbreaking my 4s as we speak, and so far so good. From greenp0isons website:

This release should come as no surprise to those of you who have been following pod2g’s iOS blog for the past few months. Earlier this week, you might have even wet your pants a little when you watched the video demonstration of today’s release (named Absinthe A5) and first witnessed our jailbreak working its magic to liberate both the iPhone 4SiPad 2.

What you may not fully realize yet is just how hard the exploits in this Apple A5 jailbreak are working behind the scenes – and, though I mentioned it last week on my Twitter – what a glorious hacker’s wet dream the Absinthe A5 toolkit has ultimately evolved into!

You can find download link both to mac and windows here.

Asus Transformer Prime Teardown

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer prime is a relatively new tablet on the market, mostly known for its ability to “transform” from tablet to netbook with a keyboard dock.  It features 18hours of battery life, which is 8 more hours of fun than you get with an ipad. Also it has a quad core tegra, which certainly makes it the fastest tablet on the market. But Asus has received a lot of critic over the past few weeks mainly due to GPS issues and the fact that the bootloader is locked (aka no custom roms). Apparently the GPS issues are due to the fact that the antenna tries to receive signals through a metal plating, which is impossible. And even though the ipad for example is also covered in metal it has plastic openings for signals to pass through. There has been an update to fix this problem but since its a design flaw it can only be tweaked — not fixed by updates.

Our friends at Chipworks have made an elaborate teardown, so check that out below. Click on an image to enlarge it and there will be a description on every image!

Meanwhile they are still doing some lab work to produce die photos including a backside poly of the Tegra 3 so you can see the full die layout, so keep your eyes open for more!
