This umbrella is not an ordinary umbrella, its a musical umbrella. The concept is to take that feeling you get when you hear the watrer drops hitting the umbrella and make it better. Too bad that the keyword here is concept, and will probably remain a concept.
Each segment of the musical umbrella is covered with a taut waxed cloth; the different tension levels and sizes of each mean that a distinct sound is produced by every part of the umbrella. According to designer Dong Min Park, the segments all correspond to a specific part of a standard drum kit. The umbrella doesn’t look like it would do much to actually protect its owner from getting rained on, but it would definitely be a conversation starter. If the shades all resonate with harmonious tones the umbrella could be a truly lovely little accessory for rainy days. On the other hand, it could turn out to be the most annoying umbrella ever invented. We’ll all just have to wait and see since the Drumbrella isn’t yet in production.
