Best movie Reviews of 2012

The Phoenix Theatre London witnessed the year 2012 to be the highest grossing year for movies in history.

The Hunger Games got the year going early with an engaging tale of a girl battling for her life in a dystopian futuristic world where a gladiatorial sport is the most watched show on television.

This hit led into The Avengers, a fun-filled action-packed adventure blending humor, super heroes, and an Incredible Hulk into a fun popcorn treat for the whole family. By the end of its theater run, The Avengers grossed over 1.5 billion dollars worldwide, a total good enough to notch highest grossing film of the year.

Actor Chris Hensworth, who played Thor in The Avengers, returned to the screen along with Kristen Stewart in a reimagining of the classic Walt Disney film, Snow White called Snow White and the Hunstman. Charlise Theron may have stolen the show in that one as the wicked queen bent on Snow White’s destruction.

Not to spoil the ending, but the actress Kristen Stewart obviously survived to return as Bella for the finale of the Twilight Series. Along with Robert Pattinson, the successful franchise about love and vampires wrapped its story in the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2
And the year closed out strong with a hit screen adaptation of a popular play that has graced the stage of the Phoenix Theatre London many times, Les Miserables. Hugh Jackman will likely win the Oscar for Best Actor for his dazzling portrayal of Jean Valjean and Anne Hathaway may win best supporting actress for her role as Fantine.

The year also had some sleeper surprises. Ben Affleck starred and directed the fabulous film, Argo. This taught political thriller added plenty of humor to its gripping story about the rescue of six Americans from the hostage crisis in Tehran, Iran in the late seventies. Argo will likely battle Les Miserables for best picture honors.

The political strife in the Middle East provided subject matter for another great film of 2012 called Zero Dark Thirty. There is plenty of buzz circling about this late year release centered on the story to hunt down Osama Bin Laden.

These are only highlights of what a great year for cinema 2012 was.
