Sharp Unveils 70" THX Certified 4K TV

Sharp promised a new exciting Aquos product today, and they sure did deliver one. The new Aquos 70″ Ultra HD TV is the only THX certified 4k TV on the market. Sharp said that it put the model through “four hundred rigorous performance tests” to gain the THX certification. Since It’s 4k that means a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, but one of the most interesting things about this TV is its upscaling engine. Which utilizes a dual core processor and actively analyzes the content to best upscale it for the huge 4k resolution. It also has Sharps special fourth pixel for added colors.

Otherwise it has a dual subwoofer system with a total of 35 watts speaker power, not bad considering its actually very thin. Sharp did say It’s their best designed TV yet. You can also stream content directly to the TV from your smartphone or tablet with their Beam app, and watch 3D films at 4K with active shutter technology, it will ship with two pairs of Bluetooth 3D glasses. Sharp also mentioned a sort of hibernated mode, where the set can be used as an “art piece” while using less power.

Turn it off, and the TV still looks beautiful. Sharp’s exclusive Wallpaper Mode turns the AQUOS Ultra HD LED into an elegant frame for photos or artwork with museum-like appearance and Ultra HD detail.

It will go on sale around August this year and go for $8000.

I have tried many 4k tv, even an 8k tv, but in fact this one was surprisingly good. Good enough to justify that price tag? Well, perhaps, perhaps not. But you wont find a better Tv out there even for that price.

Movement was of course very smooth, but what surprised me was that the colors were actually incredibly deep. It simply looked very nice.

On a somewhat amusing sidenote the guy from THX spoke very quietly so he got an extra microphone. Massive sound from their speakers, but not from their employees.

Movies, TV shows, video games, even YouTube videos are analyzed and digitally enriched, unlocking scores of hidden details.
