This snow man survived a 5314 mile long trip from Japan to Arabia, but whats most astonishing is there was no cooling involved. Apparently they where trying out a new form of vacuum insulation from panasonic.
Apparently panasonic wanted to try if their new technology worked, when they out of the blue got a message from some girl named amna al-Haddad (did i say girl?, yes) who incidentally wanted her younger brother to see snow for the first time. Problem? they live in the middle of the frigging dessert.
So they did the logical thing:
They made a mold out of reinforced styrofoam and shoveled heaps of snow into it – about 70 quarts’ worth – packing it tightly to form a rotund snowman. They put the mold in a cardboard box and covered it with Panasonic’s U-Vacua insulation, which has a glass core enveloped by a plastic-metal composite foil.
Then they slapped a “Snowman Inside” sticker onto the 225-pound box and off it went. You can see the happy results in the video above.
What does this mean technically? well trucks for an example, that carry food for long distances require a lot of power to cool, which is bad for nature. But now they might only have to cool the truck at the leaving point and then rely solely on insulation. Sounds good to me..
