IMG 66112 Panasonic FZ G1, Rugged i5 Tablet Tested gadgetzz

The Panasonic FZ-G1 is a rugged windows 8 tablet featuring an Intel i5 Processor and a lot more. This is infact the closest you can come to a real computer while still being an actual tablet.

What i can say from testing it is that it feels good in your hands. Its light, but not too light. It obviously looks rather bulky, being super rugged and all, but considering the awesome performance and being able to handle a 4 foot drop and being water resistant i think they managed to squeeze it all into a pretty thin case.

The OS is standard Windows 8, allover performance is good, and with a usb port you can plug in your mouse, keyboard or whatever. Which makes it great for work as well as fun.

Microsoft wanted to demonstrate just how tough their new Surface tablet is. During the demonstration the tablet was dropped 1.5 meters without any damage.

He also states that Microsoft has tested dropping Surface from 72 different angles and positions to ensure that the design can handle bumps and knocks.

And now for the fun, they also showed the tablet being used as a skateboard. Check it out in the video!

Asus Transformer Prime Teardown

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime 645x409 150x150 Asus Transformer Prime Teardown gadgetzzThe Asus Eee Pad Transformer prime is a relatively new tablet on the market, mostly known for its ability to “transform” from tablet to netbook with a keyboard dock.  It features 18hours of battery life, which is 8 more hours of fun than you get with an ipad. Also it has a quad core tegra, which certainly makes it the fastest tablet on the market. But Asus has received a lot of critic over the past few weeks mainly due to GPS issues and the fact that the bootloader is locked (aka no custom roms). Apparently the GPS issues are due to the fact that the antenna tries to receive signals through a metal plating, which is impossible. And even though the ipad for example is also covered in metal it has plastic openings for signals to pass through. There has been an update to fix this problem but since its a design flaw it can only be tweaked — not fixed by updates.

Our friends at Chipworks have made an elaborate teardown, so check that out below. Click on an image to enlarge it and there will be a description on every image!

Meanwhile they are still doing some lab work to produce die photos including a backside poly of the Tegra 3 so you can see the full die layout, so keep your eyes open for more!
